Emeritus Professor Comm. Erasmo Recami [Lecturers International Summer School, France]
Erasmo Recami is Emeritus Professor of Physics and honoured as Commendatore al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. He got in Italy his degrees in Physics (1964, 1967, Univ. of Milan), and his "Libera Docenza" in theoretical physics (Rome, 1971). His didactic activity started officially in 1968, in the beginning at Catania state Univ. (where he taught General Physics, Higher Physics, Theory of nuclear reactions, Molecular physics and History of Physics) and later on at Bergamo state Univ. In the middle, for ten years (1984--1994) he has been full prof of Applied Mathematics at UNICAMP/IMECC/DMA, serving as head of the corresponding Department in 1987-89. His collaboration with UNICAMP's coworkers produced about 100 papers, since 1979 till the present time. Besides in Italy and Brazil, he carried out research at Austin (Texas), Kiev (Ukraine), Oxford (UK), Copenhagen (Denmark), Wroclaw (Poland), India, etc. In the seventies he reformulated, for instance, Special Relativity (on the basis of the standard postulates!) extending it to describe-on one side-antimatter, and-on the other side-superluminal motions, thus predicting some of the relevant experimental results appeared in recent years, especailly after 1992. His research activity, represented by about 300 publications (apart from semi-popularization or popularization papers), has covered issues of Relativity, Elementary particle physics, Classical physics, Quantum mechanics, Nuclear physics and History of physics. In recent times he has worked, e.g., about the structure of spinning particles, the tunneling times, the application of the GR geometrical methods to strong interactions, and in particular about the sub- and super-luminal group-velocities experimentally associated with evanescent waves, on the one hand, and with the Localized (limited-dispersion) soliton-type Solutions to the Wave Eqs., like Maxwell equations, on the other hand. In connection with the latter "Localized Waves" [also known as Non-Diffracting Waves], he edited e.g. two books together with his Brasilian cowrkers: In particular, for the ones "at rest" (=with a static envelope) he got with them two patents. Moreover, he [the biographer of Ettore Majorana] authored some volumes reproducing and commenting many scientific manuscripts left unpublished by E.Majorana. On this respect, the Italian Physical Society awarded him in 2000 the "Premio per la storia della fisica". At last, he largely devoted himself also to scientific popularization, with articles both on encyclopedias and semi-specialized press,
as well as on newspapers and magazines (particularly in Italy).
